Have you ever thought about the priesthood and curious to know what it would be like to be a seminarian (a man being trained for ordination)? A new video produced by the Diocese of Portsmouth gives some insights.
Four seminarians in Allen Hall Seminary open up about what has brought them to the seminary. In the video, they share how they were called to embark on this journey towards the priesthood, about their day-to-day life, what they do in their downtime, how they worship and why this was the right decision for them. Painting a real picture of the struggles and the joys, these men reveal how they follow a “call out of the blue”.
One of the seminarians expresses the self-doubts that he has while in training: “One of the things I struggled with throughout my time in seminary is feeling like I’m not worthy of the priesthood … I’m not good enough. But there’s an amazing line from one of my heroes, Cardinal Hume. He says that ʻthe call of God comes to a Matthew or a Mary Magdalene out of the blue, unexpectedʼ. You know, none of us is perfect, none of us worthy for the gifts that God wants to give us in our lives… At the end of the day in seminary … I put myself humbly into His hands.”
